Stand With the Bad River Tribe

This 2012 print/graphic stands in solidarity with the Bad River Band of the Lake Superior Tribe of Chippewa and the Native and non-Native alliance against the proposed Penokee Mine in northern Wisconsin. In 2011 the Scott Walker administration re-opened Wisconsin to mining interests by allowing out-of-state mining companies to re-write the state’s mining laws. The result: a proposed 4-5 mile long open-pit iron mine in the Penokee Hills that would destroy the local ecology and the watershed. Direct resistance, a winter-long occupation camp, and environmental impact studies led to the mining companies stating that the proposed project was “too costly” to continue.
