Women For Water

This image is inspired by words under the theme “Survival”, from The Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice. Within the layered work of climate justice, that of social and economic justice have always felt, to me, the most needful of more voices, more power, more hands. People living in poverty and lower class livelihoods are some of the most deeply impacted with access to the least tools – from families in the US having their water turn brown and undrinkable due to fracking, to island nations in the Pacific who have been dealing with increasingly extreme weather, death and damages for years. This image depicts women who, because of climate change and poverty, need to travel far to get a bucket or pot of water for their basic daily needs – all while gallons of water are piped to wealthier towns and economically important metropolitan areas. These women still walk with dignity.
